My goal in blogging about my experience is to learn ways on how to get better. I’m not sure how any of you would have handled the following by here we go. I arrived at the venue early and i checked out the area I was supposed to set up and it wasn’t cleared out. I was setting up in a bakery. I brought my equipment in and i wasn’t sure where to setup. After bringing all of my equipment in , i asked someone where i needed to set up and they said we need to discuss what your setting up as i’m not sure it will all fit. I entered my car the take a breather. I thought about leaving briefly and decided to stay as i had a job to do. I decided to take the owners advice lightly as it seemed like she was trying to get under my skin. A few minutes later i started setting my equipment up in one of the tightest spaces i’ve ever been in. I had everything connected except for power. I plugged in somewhere. Ten minutes later, the owner comes up to me and says “You can’t plug in there, i will tell you where to plug in” . I didn’t really have time to wait for her so i picked another outlet and continued on. She came up to me with 10 minutes to start and said i didn’t tell you where to plug in there. I said i picked a free outlet and she walked away. Before the party she approached me again and said “i don’t care about your 500, i’m going to do everything i need to run my party”. She was concerned about speaker volume. I told her i would listen to her and she walked away. About an hour in , i asked to setup a 2nd speaker and was denied to run audio outside. Late arriving crowd ended about 40 minutes later. I even had to park my car across the street. Customer was disappointed i didn’t set the tv up for karaoke and so was I. In the 28 years i’ve dj’d working together and cooperation is such an important aspect of the party. I didn’t get that in this case. The owner was saying no to most of the customers reasonable requests. It was a rough night.
